Walking to the Egyptian and Sudanese border on the Walk of Life. Distance covered 2,000 miles

Welcome to John Abbey's site!

I hope you will find it enjoyable and informative. If you have any comments, I would be very pleased to hear from you.

The site gives readers an insight to who I am, what I believe in and my views on a whole range of topics from International Relations to the state of the economy. It's a new site, so I will keep adding to it. I do not profess to be an academic;  but I would add I have taken the time to do my research on whatever I have written.

Why adventurer to Change Maker? Well simply put, the adventurer bit of me was a 2,500 mile walk I organised back in the eighties from London to Khartoum, called the Walk of Life. I am also a very keen photojournalist (amateur I hasten to add if that's possible?) which can take me to a few interesting places on the planet.

Change Maker is my work. I run a consultancy called Abbey Solutions, and we provide a range of services for NGOs in the UK and overseas. I have a few passions within my work which I personally focus on. One being the horrendous trade in young women that are trafficked for sex. In mainland Europe my company does what it can to help get the most vulnerable women out of this mafia run business.

I think it's important that we all try to be conscious Change Makers. All of us are Change Makers in what we do every day, but most of the time we just don't realise it. The key is to always be aware of the effects on others on what we do and think about making a big difference at least once in our lives.  At the very least we owe it to ourselves not to be complacent and let others do what we know should be done.

“No man ever made a bigger mistake than he who could do only a little and did nothing.” Edmund Burke.
